As part of my dissertation degree "Liquitype" this page presents a small but growing sample library of typography in motion. The focus is on inventing virtual setups, that blur the borders between font, image and video.
Transforming the soft (or liquid) media object "font" should stress the difference to pre-digital production tools, that are based on solid substances like letterpress or film. Flat - Raised / Static - Dynamic / Hard - Soft - to name some of the poles I´m thinking about. Known principles, like displacement-mapping or slit scanning are explicitly applied to letters, what makes up the conceptual guideline for these and upcoming sketches as modules, that can be combined. So, on your next visit you have to scroll down a little further.
The great thing about working in sketch mode is, that it´s generating new directions out of itself, without loosing the big picture, which is "type in motion". It´s simple and it´s fun. For the sake of their "scientific" nature, I left the clips without sound so far. Currently digging in sytnhs and sequencers, lets see if I can add a little acoustic noise to the visual one. Digital silence sounds strange ...
